Non Surgical Brow Lift: Everything You Need To Know
The non surgical brow lift has seen a surge in popularity over the past few months, with a slew of Hollywood A-listers allegedly having the treatment. But what is a non surgical brow lift, what can it do for you and does it hurt? We are here to answer all of your non surgical brow lift questions, so if you’ve been wondering about this transformative treatment, read on…
What is a non surgical brow lift?
As the name suggests, this treatment will lift your brow area but without invasive and painful surgery. Rather than cut into your skin and reposition your brow, we use dissolvable threads to lift the area.
These threads, called PDO threads, are made from polydioxanone, a soluble polymer that’s formed into sutures. These sutures have been used in the biomedical field since the 1980s for the treatment of tendon traumas, cataracts and other healing procedures. It was their ability to not only support skin laxity but also promote the production of collagen that made them the ideal material for aesthetic medicine.
What Can A Non Surgical Brow Lift Do?
A non surgical brow lift can help with different concerns. The majority of patients opt for the treatment to help with the visible signs of ageing. The threads help to replace lost structure underneath your skin, lifting a sagging brow to smooth the eye area.
When you get older, your body produces less collagen, the protein that keeps your skin looking plump and line-free. As your collagen depletes, the surface of your skin can settle into wrinkles, and in areas like your brow, the unsupported skin can begin to droop downwards thanks to the effects of gravity.
A lower brow can dramatically change your appearance, making you look sad, tired or even angry. In some cases, a severely sagging brow can actually impact your vision.
A heavy brow isn’t always a symptom of ageing, some people naturally have a ‘hooded’ look, and a non surgical brow lift can help create a more open look. A stronger brow suits some faces, however, if you feel yours is too dominant or unflattering, it can make you feel self-conscious and anxious.
Forehead Lines
As well as lifting your eyebrows, the non surgical brow lift can help with forehead lines and wrinkles. The threads provide an improved structure for your skin to rest on, smoothing out fine to moderate lines. Common forehead lines that are addressed with a non surgical brow lift include:
- Vertical forehead lines (Glabella lines)
- Horizontal forehead lines
- Crow’s feet
Wider Eyes
A non surgical brow lift will help to make your eyes look wider by giving you more pronounced space below your eyebrow. While a brow lift can’t change the shape of your eyes – you’d need to look at treatments like non-surgical blepharoplasty or even surgical treatment for that – it can help make smaller eyes appear larger.
What Happens In A Non Surgical Brow Lift Treatment?
The brow lift is a simple and quick procedure. Following your consultation with one of our highly experienced Drs, you will come to the Elite Aesthetics clinic in Greenhithe, Kent where you will relax in one of our luxury treatment rooms.
To start with, a local anaesthetic is injected to ensure that the procedure is as painless as possible. The PDO threads are expertly inserted and gently manipulated into place. Once anchored, the threads won’t move position for the duration of their use.
The treatment takes between 20 minutes and an hour, and there’s no downtime, although you may experience slight bruising, redness or swelling at the insertion site for a couple of days. While you can carry on with your usual day-to-day activities, some prefer to rest while their skin settles.
You must avoid washing the area for 24 hours, and don’t apply make up over the brow for a 48 hour period.
How Long Does A Brow Lift Last?
The threads used in the brow lift last for up to 12 months, slowly absorbing into your body. And although the threads dissipate, new collagen is produced by your body in response to their application. This helps to naturally prolong the effects of the brow lift.
Does It Hurt?
Some patients report feeling a pinch as the anaesthetic is administered and feeling nothing apart from gentle tugging thereafter. Others say that they don’t even feel the anaesthetic being injected.
There may be some sensitivity over the following hours, but this quickly subsides.
Will My Face Still Show Expressions?
The beauty of the brow lift is that you maintain full control of your facial muscles. Certain treatments work by paralysing the muscles to prevent them from creating wrinkles, but a by-product of this is a perfectly still expression. For some, this is ideal but for others, the ability to show their expression is important.
Are There Any Other Treatments That Can Help?
It very much depends on the reason you’re looking at the non surgical brow lift. If you want to reduce your forehead lines, then there are several other options that can be explored. The same goes for creating a more wide-eyed look; there are alternative treatments that can achieve a similar outcome. The best way to find out if the brow lift is the most effective solution for you is to book a consultation.
Here, we will take an in-depth look at your concern, discuss your lifestyle and desired outcome and then make tailored recommendations for treatment.
