Overview
HIFU uses Focused Ultrasound to target the layers of skin just below the surface. The ultrasound energy causes the tissue to heat up rapidly. Once the cells in the targeted area reach a certain temperature, they experience cellular damage, which in turn stimulates the cells to produce more collagen. Collagen is the protein that give your skin its structure.
As the collagen increases, this results in firmer skin with fewer wrinkles. As the high-frequency ultrasound beams are focused on a specific tissue site below the skin’s surface, there’s no damage to the upper layers of the skin and no immediate visible signs of treatment.

According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), HIFU and other nonsurgical alternatives to facelifts have seen a major increase in popularity over the last few years. The total number of procedures performed has increased almost 65 percent between 2012 and 2017.
‘3D SkinMed’, ‘Ultherapy’ or ‘Ultrasound Facelift’ has become one of the most popular treatments for the face and neck. Elite Aesthetics is one of the few clinics in the UK with the latest 3D techonology.
3D SkinMed is a fantastic treatment which will help you achieve firmer and tighter, lifted skin!
High-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) is a relatively new non-invasive cosmetic treatment for skin tightening that some consider and painless replacement for face lifts. It uses ultrasound energy to encourage the production of collagen, which results in firmer and tauter skin.
HIFU is historically known for its use in treating cancer. The first reported use of HIFU for aesthetic use was in 2008.
HIFU was then approved by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration in the US) in 2009 for brow lifts. More recently in 2014, the device was also cleared by the FDA to improve lines and wrinkles of the upper chest and neckline.
People were able to see results in a few months after treatment, without the risks associated with surgery. Several small clinical trials have found HIFU to be safe and effective for facial lifting and refining wrinkles. Results have been particularly good in younger patients who don’t want the risks and recovery time associated with surgery.
HIFU won’t work as well for people with severe cases of sagging skin, where thread lifts of plexr may be more appropriate.
HIFU may not be appropriate for everyone. The procedure works best on people older than 30 with mild-to-moderate skin laxity. People with sun damaged skin or a more loose skin may need multiple treatments before seeing results.
HIFU isn’t recommended for people with infections and open lesions at the target area, severe or cystic acne, and metallic implants in the treatment area.
You should remove all makeup and skin care products from the target area before treatment.
HIFU is considered a very safe and effective non-invasive procedure for tightening the facial skin and reducing wrinkles.
Its key advantage over a surgical face lift are :
If you’re looking for a treatment that is quick, painless, and non-invasive, HIFU is an excellent option compared to a surgical face lift. The procedure repeated in one to two years as the natural aging process takes over. If you’re a bit older with more skin sagging , HIFU may not be able to resolve all the skin issues.

HIFU is considered extremely safe if performed by a trained, qualified and experienced professional.
You’re able to resume your normal activities immediately after you leave. There might be some slight redness or swelling may occur, but it should subside quickly. A light tingling sensation of the treated area may persist for a few weeks, which is also quite normal.
On rare occasions, you may experience temporary numbness or bruising, but these side effects usually go away within the first few days after treatment.
The majority of patients need only one treatment; however, some may benefit from more than one treatment (depending on how much laxity they have and their body’s own biological response to the ultrasound and collagen rebuilding process).
The treatment is generally well tolerated. However, you may experience slight discomfort during the procedure. Some people describe it as a light prickly sensation.
If you’re worried about pain, your therapist may suggest taking (NSAID), such as ibuprofen prior to treatment. Immediately after the treatment, you may experience mild redness or swelling, which will gradually recede over the next few hours.
Results start to appear after 12 weeks and continue for 1 year. Each person is an individual, so results will of course vary.
Prices range depending upon the area being treated and start from £1400. You will typically only require 1 treatment, however more sessions may be required to achieve the result you would like. This will of course be discussed during your consultation.

Ultherapy is ideal for skin that is mild to moderately lax, by reconditioning and renewing the skin from within. Ultherapy can be used to lift the brow, which in turn reduces excess skin on the eyelids and opens up the eyes.
HIFU treatment can be a great choice when if want to lift and tighten your skin without the downside of invasive surgery. The benefits of HIFU are:
·HIFU treatment works well for many people
· Safe and non-invasive treatment, with no need for injectables
· Works by stimulating natural processes in your skin to rebuild collagen, so the results will be very natural-looking
· The treatment won’t take long
· Typically 2 treatments are sufficient
However, there some disadvantages to HIFU treatment. You should be aware that:
· The full effects might not be visible for around 2–3 months
· Requires repeated treatments periodically to achieve and maintain the best results
· Some people experience slight redness, swelling or bruising after HIFU treatment, although it should disappear quickly
· The effects can vary between individuals, so HIFU might not work as well for you as it does for other people
· Rarely, there can be a sensation of numbness or tingling that can last for up to a couple of weeks
In Summary:
Surgery can be very expensive, risky and prone to complications. With Hifu, you can rejuvenate your skin and appearance much easier. With surgical facelifts, there are always risks of bleeding, infection, blood clots, pain, scarring, and anaesthesia risks. On the other hand with Hifu you don’t have these risks.
At Elite Aesthetics, it is not recommended to receive energy-based treatments such as HIFU or radiofrequency skin tightening during pregnancy. This is due to the lack of information regarding their effects on the foetus. Similarly, Anti Wrinkle Injection Treatments and fillers are to be avoided as well for the same reason.
The facial can take up to 2-3 hours depending upon the size of the area being treated. At Elite Aesthetics, we will ensure that you remain comfortable during the whole treatment period. We have options including music to keep you entertained.
Yes, the HIFU facial is safe provided it done by an experienced and qualified practitioner.
HIFU is safe, effective and a great solution for lifting and tightening the jowls, reducing fine lines around your eyes, nose and mouth, tightening your skin around your jaw and neckline and reducing hooded, saggy eyelids. One of the big benefits of the HIFU Facial is that it’s a non-surgical treatment that can be done in a single treatment. The results can last for up to 1 year or more.
How Many HIFU Treatments Will I Need to see good results? Most clients only need one treatment. However this may be based on the degree of skin laxity, the biological response to ultrasound energy and the individual’s collagen-building process, some clients may benefit from additional treatments. Most of our clients only need 1 treatment as we use the latest form of HIFU technology by 3D Lipo.
How often should I do it? We recommend 1 or 2 treatments within the first year for optimal results. The second treatment can be done 3 months after. We also recommend maintenance treatment every 12-18 months.
You can have a Anti Wrinkle Injection Treatments treatment a week or so after the HIFU treatment. You should discuss this with the doctor that will be administering your treatment though, because he or she may feel differently.
HIFU Face and Neck Lift. … Working on both the face and neck, it’ll also improve your skin’s elasticity and shapes the face contours. By lifting and tightening your skin, it really can get rid of that double chin! However, we would recommend a thread lift for the neck.
You may experience slight discomfort during an HIFU procedure. We can provide numbing if required and our doctor can provide a nerve block if required. Generally this treatment is well tolerated.
Ultherapy uses micro-focused ultrasound (MFU) beams, while HIFU stands for High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound. While the former is more focused than the latter, they both send a beam through skin layers to get the collagen going. HIFU treatment and Ultherapy both treat the skin at 1.5mm, 3.0mm, and 4.5mm.
