Dr Shirin Treats Lichen Sclerosus Live On ITV’s This Morning
Conversations about intimate health should never be embarrassing or taboo, but unfortunately, they often still are. Elite Aesthetics’ Dr Shirin is trying to change that by talking openly about some of the painful or embarrassing intimate health conditions people suffer from, such as Lichen Sclerosus.
As a GP and specialist in intimate health treatments, Dr Shirin believes that everyone should feel comfortable and confident in seeking help for their conditions, no matter how personal or “embarrassing” they may be.
As an expert with a passionate interest in Lichen Sclerosus, Dr Shirin was recently invited to demonstrate an effective Lichen Sclerosus treatment live on This Morning, showing just how quick, easy, and painless a non-invasive Lichen Sclerosus treatment can be.
Watch the video here to see how the treatment went…
Live Lichen Sclerosus Treatment on This Morning
The treatment performed by Dr Shirin in this video is Morpheus8V. A revolutionary vaginal rejuvenating treatment that has been life-changing for those suffering from conditions such as Lichen Sclerosus, which can be a very challenging condition to manage as many conventional treatments fail to deliver long-term relief.
What Is Lichen Sclerosus?
Lichen Sclerosus (LS) is a condition affecting the skin of the genital area. The cause of LS is not yet fully understood, but an overactive immune system is believed to play a key role.
It commonly appears as white spots in or around the vulva, and often results in severe itching, burning pain and scarring. Because of the extreme impact on your skin, the day-to-day pain can be severe, and clothes often aggravate it. Also, during flare-ups, it can make engaging in sexual activity extremely painful, impacting relationships and even mental health.
Many patients are wrongly diagnosed and suffer for many years before receiving the correct information about the condition. And then, even when correctly diagnosed, patients can spend years attempting numerous treatments, such as steroid creams, with varying levels of success.
Unfortunately, most sufferers build immunity to steroid treatment options, making finding a reliable Lichen Sclerosus treatment incredibly difficult. Lots of women give up entirely and resign themselves to a lifetime of pain and discomfort.
The good news is that there are non-invasive treatments that can relieve the symptoms of LS. While they will never completely ‘cure’ it, they can provide the most effective long-term relief. Morpheus8V is one such treatment.
How Can Morpheus8V Help?
Adopting the same method as Morpheus 8 (a popular skin-tightening treatment involving the use of needles that emit radiofrequency energy), Morpheus8V focuses on vaginal rejuvenation.
The treatment uses ultra-thin microneedles gently stamped into your skin, creating a controlled “injury”. This process prompts collagen and elastin production, two of the crucial proteins responsible for keeping your skin firm, tight and smooth. Both naturally occur in your body, but production begins to slow down as you age and without these proteins, your vaginal health starts to deteriorate.
Combining microneedling and RF energy, as in Morpheus8V, specifically reduces LS symptoms by thickening the skin, improving elasticity and reducing the appearance of white patches. Controlled injuries trigger the body’s natural healing process, which regenerates healthier tissue in the deeper layers of the skin, which LS often affects.
What To Expect From The Lichen Sclerosus Treatment
A trained doctor, such as Dr Shirin, provides Morpheus8V treatment with a groundbreaking, patented applicator specifically designed to help with vaginal rejuvenation. The applicator is a small wand-like device combining revolutionary microneedling technology with radiofrequency therapy to stimulate natural collagen production.
The applicator can be programmed to provide different penetration depths and energy delivery depending on the desired results. Our experienced intimate health doctors know precisely which settings to use for the best results. It can be used both internally and externally.
Gentle micro-pin needles create tiny controlled injuries whilst delivering RF energy to generate heat to the treated area. These controlled injuries stimulate your body’s natural healing response, resulting in a firmer, more elastic vagina and vulva.
Microneedling in this area is not uncomfortable, and 30-35 minutes before your treatment begins, local anaesthetic cream is applied to cleansed skin, making the procedure painless.
Other Conditions Morpheus8V Can Help
It is not just an effective Lichen Sclerosus treatment; Morpheus8V can also treat other issues, such as:
- Vaginal laxity – often associated with childbirth, ageing or hormonal changes.
- Reducing scarring, for example, the formation of scar tissue inside the vagina.
- Vaginal dryness, which can make intercourse uncomfortable or painful.
- Reduced sensitivity in the genital area, which can affect sexual pleasure.
- Urinary incontinence, which can occur due to weakened pelvic floor muscles, is often associated with childbirth, ageing, or LS.
Patients choose this treatment because a non-surgical approach results in minimal downtime while significantly improving vaginal sensitivity and overall intimacy.
The O-Shot For Lichen Sclerosus
In addition to Morpheus8V, the O-Shot is an effective Lichen Sclerosus treatment.
It differs from Morpheus8V because it uses your own platelet-rich plasma (PRP) to rejuvenate the vagina.
To make this powerful serum, a small amount of your blood is drawn and spun in a high-speed centrifuge, separating the platelets in the blood, and this is what is known as PRP.
The O-Shot focuses on the intimate regions, specifically targeting the vagina by stimulating stem cells to generate new tissue, including collagen and fatty tissue (essential for structure and lubrication, nerve endings, and blood vessels.) All of this translates to thicker vaginal tissue, heightened sensitivity, and increased blood flow to erogenous zones, potentially improving your overall sexual experience as well as treating a variety of other concerns.
PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) treatment can also be applied across the entire body, addressing various concerns such as hair loss and reducing signs of ageing. The procedure has been used for decades to heal wounds and joint injuries.
This treatment is a natural remedy that harnesses your body’s growth factors to stimulate healing and rejuvenation.
Sam’s Experience With The O-Shot
At Elite Aesthetics, we’ve helped treat many patients suffering from LS. Sam was one of our more extreme cases, and she had been suffering from the condition since her teenage years.
By her 20s, Sam experienced such extreme symptoms that sex became totally unbearable. On one occasion, she suffered a painful vaginal spilt and was prescribed lidocaine and steroid cream afterwards. These creams would help to numb the area so sex would not be so uncomfortable.
Although this did help to alleviate pain for a short time, numbing the area didn’t enhance her sex life in any way, and over time, she even became immune to these creams.
It took until she was in her 30s to receive an LS diagnosis and many more years of trialling treatments, none of which were able to provide the long-term relief she was hoping for.
Late diagnosis is very common because the symptoms can often be passed off as other conditions. Sadly for Sam and other women in a similar position, they undergo years of trying different treatments with varying degrees of success.
Sam underwent the O-Shot treatment, and it has been life-changing. She says it is the closest thing she has ever experienced to a cure for her LS.
