Overview
Do your eyes look hollow or sunken?
Are dark circles under your eyes making you look old, tired or unhealthy?
If you’re looking for a non-surgical solution that can rejuvenate your sunken eyes and give you a fresher, more youthful and healthier appearance then tear trough fillers are the answer.
tear trough fillers before & after
Dark circles and tear troughs (the sunken hollows under your eyes) can both create an aged, tired or unhealthy look. While dark circles can sometimes be resolved with adequate sleep, good hydration and a healthy lifestyle, tear troughs are a much trickier problem to tackle.
Tear troughs, or sunken eye sockets, can be brought on by ageing as the collagen production slows down and the skin thins and sags. This creates small fat pouches under the eye and casts a shadow across the area. They can also be genetic, appearing from a young age and becoming more severe as you get older.
In the past, the only effective treatment available to improve the appearance of tear troughs was a lower blepharoplasty – a surgical procedure that carries all the complications and risks associated with ocular surgery.
Now, thanks to the progression of the aesthetics industry, tear trough fillers (also known as under eye fillers) offer you a safe and effective, non-surgical solution.
Using hyaluronic dermal fillers we can plump up and smooth out the area around your eye and the orbital bone (the eye socket), reducing the appearance of tear troughs and minimizing shadows under your eyes. Giving you fresher, more youthful eyes and restoring your confidence in your appearance.

Your eyes are a huge part of how you communicate with others, and your eyes are usually the first thing that people take notice of when you first meet them. Tear troughs can contribute to dark circles and create a tired, aged appearance around the eyes, which can impact on your self-confidence.
Tear trough fillers can help with:
tear trough fillers before & after
Tear trough fillers use hyaluronic acid to plump, firm and fill the hollows under your eyes to give you a fresher, brighter appearance.
Hyaluronic fillers are the most commonly used dermal fillers and are made with naturally-occurring hyaluronic acid: a hydrating wonder ingredient that can hold up to 1000 times its own weight in water.
The hyaluronic acid helps to bring hydration to the area and brightens and boosts the appearance of the undereye. Hyaluronic fillers are flexible and malleable, allowing Dr. Shirin to work precisely to ensure that your results are perfect for your facial structure and personal concerns.
Dermal fillers also help to strengthen and thicken the skin under the eyes, helping to cover dark or inflamed blood vessels and improving the appearance of dark circles.
Hyaluronic acid fillers are biodegradable, malleable and the safest form of dermal filler on the market.
Hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in your body, so there’s no risk of allergic reactions or rejection. The levels of HA in the body are balanced by an enzyme known as hyaluronidase, which breaks down the hyaluronic acid molecules. This allows the tear trough fillers to be broken down over time naturally, making it the least disruptive form of filler for your body as you don’t need any treatment or surgery to remove them.
Consultation
The first step towards getting your tear trough filler treatment is to book a consultation with Dr Shirin Lakhani, our medical director here who will be performing the procedure.
Dr. Shirin is an experienced, highly skilled and honest Aesthetic Doctor with more than 20 years experience. During the consultation, she will talk to you about what it is you want to achieve from your tear trough filler treatment, as well as answering any questions you might have about the procedure or aftercare.
This extensive consultation helps ensure that you’re a good candidate for tear trough fillers and gives you a chance to get to know Dr. Shirin and the staff at Elite Aesthetics.
When you’re undergoing any treatment it’s important that you feel comfortable and safe with your chosen clinic and Doctor. By visiting us here at our aesthetics clinic in Greenhithe in Kent, you can be certain that you’ve chosen a doctor you can trust to perform the treatment safely and to a very high standard.
If you’re happy to go ahead with the treatment then you can get your appointment booked in before you leave the consultation.
For 24 hours before your tear trough fillers, you will need to avoid blood thinners like aspirin and other anti-inflammatories like Ibuprofen or Aleve. If you take fish oils, multivitamins or vitamin E then you’ll need to avoid these for at least a day beforehand too, as they can increase the risk of bruising following your treatment.
During your treatment, Dr Shirin will first apply a numbing cream to the area she is going to treat to help make the procedure comfortable for you. Once the cream has taken effect she will inject the filler using a tiny needle. You may feel a little discomfort as the filler goes in, but most people find it easily tolerable.
The entire procedure usually takes around 25 minutes. Because it’s a non-surgical and only minimally-invasive treatment there’s no required recovery time, so you can get back to your day straight away.
After treatment, some people experience a little mild swelling or bruising. This should resolve on its own within a few days, leaving you with healthier, more youthful-looking eyes.
Avoid touching the area around your eyes while the filler settles in and don’t take part in any intense exercise for 24 hours after treatment.
The amount of time the tear trough fillers will last varies from person to person depending on several things including the volume, type and location of filler injected. Most people find that their tear trough fillers last around 12 months, although they may last as long as 18 months in some people.
Tear trough fillers are not as painful as they might sound! In fact, most people agree that the treatment is surprisingly comfortable.
Because tear trough fillers are a non-surgical and minimally invasive treatment, there’s no cutting, slicing or stitching required! The treatment is performed with a very tiny needle and before the treatment, your aesthetic doctor will apply a topical anaesthetic cream which will numb the area.
Here at Elite Aesthetics, we use a specialist filler that also contains an anaesthetic – making the whole treatment pretty much totally pain-free!
Results last one to two years, depending upon your lifestyle. Because the tear trough isn’t a very mobile place, it takes your body longer to absorb the hyaluronic acid which means the filler breaks down slower than in other parts of the body.
Yes, tear trough fillers can help lessen the appearance of dark circles under your eyes.
You should notice a difference immediately following the treatment, but the full results will become visible over the following weeks, as the hyaluronic acid helps your skin to rebuild the new collagen and elastin.
Hyaluronic Acid is a naturally occurring substance in the body and so it is very well tolerated. The only reported side effects are light bruising and mild swelling at the injection sites. These generally disappear within a few days without any intervention.
There are some other very rare side effects such as infection, lack of symmetry and granulomas but these are uncommon and tend to occur when an untrained and unqualified person has completed the treatment so it’s essential you choose a reputable aesthetic doctor you can trust.
If you’re considering tear trough fillers as a way to get rid of those dark circles under your eyes and give yourself a fresher, more youthful look then you probably want to know how much they cost?
Cosmetic surgery is often expensive, but non-surgical aesthetic alternatives are usually much more affordable! Tear trough fillers are no exception. When completed by a professional, qualified and experienced doctor, your tear trough filler treatment should only cost somewhere between £400-500.
You usually only need one single treatment (unless your condition is severe) and the results should last you between 6-12 months, making them not only safe and effective – but very affordable too.

Tear troughs refer to hollows under the eyes that can make you look older and more tired. Tear troughs are often confused with dark circles, but while the effects are similar, the causes are completely different.
Dark circles are caused by pigmentation in the skin below the eyes, and can be exacerbated by inflammation and the thickening of blood vessels under the eyes brought on by excessive rubbing or a lack of sleep. Tear troughs, however, are physical hollows under the eyes. Tear troughs are commonly emphasised by a lack of sleep, and tend to be more permanent than dark circles. Tear troughs can be brought on by ageing as the skin sags and thins, creating small fat pouches under the eye and casting a shadow across the area. They can also be genetic, appearing from a young age and becoming more severe as we get older.

How do you know what results to expect from tear trough fillers? Before and after pictures are a great place to start.
With tear trough fillers, before and after photos can help you to see what the treatment can offer you and give you an understanding of realistic results.
When you’re choosing a clinic or aesthetician to complete your tear trough fillers, before and after pictures should play a part in your decision-making process.
It’s important that you make sure to check that the before and after photos the aesthetician shows you really are of their own work – there are some very talented, honest and ethical aestheticians out there – and some not so great ones who are willing to pass off other people’s work as their own too!

Like other fillers, there are some small risks involved with this treatment – but when performed by a professional and qualified aesthetician eye trough fillers are usually a safe, minimally-invasive treatment.
You might notice some minor, localised swelling immediately after the treatment but this usually resolves within 24-48 hours, leaving you with smoother eyes and a more youthful-looking appearance.
It’s always important to choose a reputable clinic or aesthetician, no matter what kind of fillers or treatment you’re having – but even more so with tear trough fillers!
Because the skin under the eyes is so thin and delicate it’s essential that the aesthetician that’s treating you is professionally trained and knowledgeable if you want to get good results.
Unfortunately, the aesthetic industry is not nearly regulated enough. There’s no law that states you must be trained, qualified or insured to perform this type of treatment, so anyone can set up in business and offer tear duct fillers to the public! Because of this it’s very important that you research and choose an esthetician that you know to be qualified, skilled and safe.
