Sam’s Story – Results of Her Lichen Sclerosus Treatment
The O Shot is a non-surgical treatment designed to rejuvenate the vagina to improve conditions including Lichen Sclerosus.
Sam’s Lichen Sclerosus Treatment Results Success
Lichen Sclerosus is an incredibly frustrating and life-impacting skin condition that affects the skin of the genitals. It appears as white spots and results in itching, burning pain and scarring. There is no known cause for this condition, but an overactive immune system or an imbalance of hormones usually plays a role.
It affects both men and women, but is more common in women. It is very distressing for those suffering from it and the symptoms can damage your self-confidence and affect your mental health, putting a strain on your relationship with yourself and others.
Treatments for Lichen Sclerosus are very limited, but the O Shot at Elite Aesthetics by Dr Shirin Lakhani has been transforming lives and helping women to break free from this debilitating condition.
Sam’s Story
Sam has been affected by this condition for over 30 years. She was so fed up that she often referred to her vagina as ‘broken’. Sam suffered ongoing pain, soreness and vaginal dryness since she was 14 years old.
It affected her throughout her teenage years, becoming particularly bad during her GCSEs. She couldn’t wear tampons, thongs or jeans as the pain increased if she did, and once she began embarking on relationships, she quickly learnt that having sex was extremely painful too.
Sam has sought several treatment options over the years, but nothing was successful. She began to think that nothing would relieve the pain and that she’d just have to live with it.
Every sexual health clinic she visited wrongly diagnosed her with thrush, they advised vaginal creams such as Canesten, but it wasn’t enough. After experiencing an extremely painful vaginal spilt, Sam feared that sex would always be painful.
A doctor ended up prescribing lidocaine to numb the area so that she could have pain-free sex, but this and the steroid creams only made things worse, especially as they became less effective over time.
Sam even had surgery to remove excess skin from her genitals in the hope that they would heal back stronger, but even this extreme step didn’t work.
At age 34, a gynaecologist finally diagnosed Lichen Sclerosus, and she was put forward for a fat transplant therapy where fat was taken from her legs and injected into her vagina. She had it done twice and although it helped for a short while. She had to take significant time off work for recovery and Sam found the whole procedure very invasive.
As a last resort, she appeared on the latest series of Channel 4’s Embarrassing Bodies where she was referred to Dr Shirin for the revolutionary O Shot treatment for Lichen Sclerosus.
What Sam Says
“I couldn’t be happier with the results. I did experience a little pain and swelling afterwards, but this didn’t last long and I soon felt great!
I can wear jeans again, I wasn’t sore or itchy, and best of all, sex was no longer so agonising I had to avoid it. Previously there would have been long periods of time when I was unable to have sex because of the extreme pain.
The O Shot has improved my mental health significantly, day-to-day life is much easier, and my relationship improved too.
After so many years of thinking that there was nothing that could help me, I had almost given up. That is why I’m keen to tell my story. So other LS sufferers to know that there is help out there.”
You don’t have to suffer in silence, you can take control of your body, your sex life and feel comfortable in your skin.
The Treatment
Sam was advised to undergo a platelet-rich plasma treatment, known as the O Shot. This treatment is known to treat conditions like Lichen Sclerosus as well as invigorate sexual health and improve orgasms.
At Elite Aesthetics, we use a specific FDA Approved centrifuge, to give the best possible results, and we’re the only clinic in the UK to use this centrifuge for the O Shot.
The science behind it is very clever, it uses the incredible healing ability of your immune system to heal another area. And what’s even better is it’s a non-invasive procedure that requires little to no downtime.
PRP (platelet-rich plasma) treatments are proven to help to heal the area, reducing the need for treatment such as topical steroid creams, especially where you may have built up a resistance to steroids.
How Does It Work?
PRP contains essential cell-regenerating growth factors that are essential for treatment.
First, they took a small amount of Sam’s blood which was then spun at a high frequency within a centrifuge to separate the platelet-rich plasma.
The PRP was then injected inside and outside of Sam’s vagina. This might sound uncomfortable, but the whole procedure was done under local anaesthetic so it was a comfortable experience.
The way it works is by stimulating the body’s stem cells to produce new tissue including collagen and adipose (fatty) tissue, nerve endings and blood vessels. Treatment areas such as vaginal tissue become rejuvenated and thicker and the sensitivity is heightened to increase blood flow to the erogenous zones.
The Results
Most women who have had the injection have reduced Lichen Sclerosus symptoms, enjoy an increase in sexual responses, including stronger and more frequent orgasms, and less painful intercourse.
The benefits that you can expect post-treatment are:
- Alleviation from the symptoms of Lichen Sclerosus
- Decrease of pain during and after sex due to dryness or scarring
- Increased natural lubrication
- Improved appearance of the labia
- Alleviation from stress incontinence
- Enhanced arousal
- Stronger and more frequent orgasms
