How I Cured My Lichen Sclerosus? My Personal Experience

‘How I cured my Lichen Sclerosus?’ Here’s my journey and how I struggled with symptoms, diagnosis and the impact on the quality of my life.

How I Cured My Lichen Sclerosus
How I Cured My Lichen Sclerosus

Lichen Sclerosus Symptoms and it’s Affect On My Daily Life

It all started many years ago for me. In my early twenties I started to see changes in my body, in particular, some common Lichen Sclerosus symptoms. These included burning, chronic itching and tightness around my genital area. I had many visits to see my GP and specialist dermatologists who prescribed over the counter medication. However, the remedies were not effective and my symptoms continued to deteriorate over time.

The itching became uncontrollable and my skin became more fragile, causing sores and splits. I really was suffering and daily life became increasing more difficult. I then started to adjust the way I lived my life, wearing loose clothing, avoiding jeans and trousers altogether. I’d even try to minimise walking and wouldn’t even consider of going to my gym for exercise.

I felt like my world was shrinking, every day relationships became strained. Intimacy was painful and impacted my relationship with my partner. I continued to search for a solution…

I had no idea what it was and I felt like no one understood the issues I was going through. I knew that something wasn’t right, but I took years for me to find the right expert to help.

The Right Diagnosis At Last

I had decided to see as many doctors as possible in the hope that one might know what I had been suffering from. Most would diagnose thrush, skin irritation or other fungal infections. Some had asked about my intimate hygiene routine, making suggestions implying that I wasn’t keeping my intimate areas clean.

I’d be prescribed a series of anti fungal creams and various prescription medications. I thought that I was finally starting to see a change in symptoms with the creams, however, in time, they became less effective. My world started to shrink again as the symptoms increased and the doctors ran out of medications that they could prescribe.

It wasn’t until I saw a specialist at Elite Aesthetics that I finally received the right diagnosis—Lichen Sclerosus.

Dr Shirin and here amazing team of doctors immediately identified my condition in my first consultation with them. They explained that I was not alone, that they would support me and also put in touch with LS Support Groups. I was trying to hold back the tears, finally, someone knew what I was going through. Dr Shirin was very honest with me and said that there is no known cure, but she was hopeful that she could provide long term symptom relief. At that moment, any news was positive for me.

How I Cured My Lichen Sclerosus

Now, I know that there isn’t a cure for Lichen Sclerosus, this is as I later found out due to no one knowing what causes Lichen Sclerosus. I just wanted to feel normal again, wear my jeans and begin a new relationship. Dr Shirin explained that a combination of treatments would be best for me once she had completed her assessment. I felt relieved that there was a plan, and there was the possibility of long term relief.

So, how did I cured my Lichen Sclerosus?

Reduce Inflammation by using Steroid Creams

To help control the flare-ups, I was prescribed topical steroids. Since Lichen Sclerosus is an inflammatory condition, these treatments work by suppressing the immune response responsible for redness, swelling, and relentless itching. When I applied the steroid creams exactly as directed, I experienced a noticeable reduction in discomfort and irritation.

That said, it’s crucial to use topical steroids strictly under medical supervision. Overuse or incorrect application can lead to side effects, including skin thinning, something no one with Lichen Sclerosus wants to risk.

Moisturise My Skin with Emollients

Lichen Sclerosus left the skin in my intimate area extremely dry. Despite trying various moisturisers and oils, nothing seemed to make a real difference.

Keeping the skin well-hydrated is a vital part of managing Lichen Sclerosus. Specialised moisturisers designed for LS act as a protective barrier, helping to reduce irritation and discomfort. In my case, using medical-grade emollients regularly eased the tightness and dryness, making everyday activities significantly more manageable and comfortable.

Hormone Creams

In some cases, Lichen Sclerosus is linked to hormonal imbalances, particularly low levels of oestrogen. Treatments such as topical oestrogen creams can help restore hormonal balance and support skin health.

Personally, hormone therapy made a significant difference. It improved the elasticity of my skin and enhanced overall vaginal health, making intimacy far more comfortable and reducing the pain that had previously been caused by friction.

Radio Frequency Treatment for Lichen Sclerosus

When I first heard about Morpehus 8V, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. But after experiencing the treatment myself, I can confidently say it became a turning point in my Lichen Sclerosus journey.

It turns out that Morpheus 8V is a more advanced version of FormaV. It’s a non-surgical procedure that uses gentle radiofrequency heat energy to stimulate collagen production. This helped make my skin noticeably stronger, more elastic, and more resilient. The warmth during the sessions was surprisingly soothing, and I could feel it gradually improving the texture and comfort of my intimate skin over time.

After several treatments, the results were clear, my skin felt firmer, healthier, and far less prone to discomfort. It even helped reduce the risk of long-term scarring, which can be a concern for many with Lichen Sclerosus.

If you’re exploring your treatment options, I can honestly say that Morpheus 8V was one of the most effective therapies I tried, and one I’d wholeheartedly recommend.

PRP Treatment for Lichen Sclerosus

I’d never heard of PRP until I visited Elite Aesthetics. Dr Shirin explained that Platelet Rich Plasma can regenerate skin, collagen and nerves by encouraging my body to regenerate areas that have been treated. You see, the PRP (concentrated blood from me) was spun in a centrifuge and then re-injected in my areas with LS. It took about 6 weeks before I started to see a significant change in my skin quality and by 12 weeks I was brave enough to consider wear jeans again!

Life After Lichen Sclerosus Treatment

Thanks to my comprehensive treatment plan, I experienced a remarkable transformation. Within just a few months, my symptoms were under control, my skin regained a healthier appearance, and, perhaps most importantly, I began to feel like myself again.

Being able to live a normal, pain-free life, wear the clothes I love without discomfort, and enjoy intimacy without fear or pain were milestones I’d longed for—and finally reached.

The team at Elite Aesthetics are truly dedicated to providing long-term relief for Lichen Sclerosus patients. Their integrative approach means every treatment plan is tailored to your individual needs, resulting in long-lasting, meaningful improvement.

Other Lichen Sclerosus Treatments

Surgery

With surgery, a surgeon removes excess skin from your genitals in the hope that they will heal back stronger. This can work for a time; however, many women find that LS returns anyway. The surgery is invasive and requires a lot of downtime. It is only recommended as a last resort.

Fat transplant

Fat transplant therapy is when fat is taken from another area of your body and injected into your vagina. In Sam’s case, fat was taken from her legs. She had this procedure done twice and although it helped for a short while, she had to take significant time off work for recovery and found the whole procedure very invasive.

Had a consultation with Elite yesterday, I must say I was a bit nervous, but Dr Shirin was so friendly and helpful.
I was given lots of advice and was given treatment options that were within my budget.
A few weeks after the P Shot I've really started to see a difference and have gained my confidence back.

Thank You!

Elite is an outstanding professional clinic with high standard treatments. All the staff members are friendly and offer you honest opinions when it comes to products and treatments. This is a welcoming clinic that I can 100% recommend. Treatments are spoken through and explained in detail, also aftercare. I have been going nearly a year now and am happy with all the treatments I’ve had, wouldn't go anywhere else. The Bocox treatment started to work within a few days, which I was surprised about. So glad I went to Elite for treatment.

HV

Thank you Dr Shirin, the O Shot has really helped me with my Lichen Sclerosus. I'd heard about the treatment on the LS Facebook Groups and message a few people that had treatment with Dr Shirin. I was like many in the group who had run out of treatment options and using creams on a daily basis. I have to say a few months after treatment, I can see a real positive change and I'm hoping my LS will continue to improve. Dr Shirin did say that I might have to have a second treatment given how severe my case is.
