Does The Silhouette Soft Thread Lift Work?
The Silhouette Soft thread lift has been hailed as the most effective way to achieve an all-over more youthful appearance without having to commit to surgery. A quick search will bring up lots of photos of impressive transformations using Silhouette Soft threads, but one of our frequently asked questions is, ‘will the Silhouette Soft thread lift work for me?’.
In this blog post, we look at all of the ways the silhouette soft can contour, refine and smooth your skin. Read on to see if it’s for you…
What is the Silhouette Soft Thread Lift?
The Silhouette Soft thread lift, sometimes known as the ‘puppet facelift’ or ‘lunchtime facelift’ is a non-surgical procedure that works to lift and plump your skin in two ways.
The first is with the Silhouette Soft threads. Due to their absorbable nature, these medical-grade sutures are made from polylactic acid (PLA), which has been used in cardiology and plastic surgery for decades.
The threads act as a kind of scaffold, lifting areas of your skin that have begun to sag. The sagging of your skin is a natural effect of ageing; as you get older, your body’s collagen supply starts to diminish and what was once a smooth surface can develop fine lines and wrinkles. The loss of collagen and elastin can even cause your facial ‘fat pads’ (the squishy bits on your cheeks) to droop, leaving your overall appearance unbalanced and often leading to things like sad mouth, marionette lines or under-eye bags.
The second anti-ageing effect of the Silhouette Soft thread lift comes from the sutures as they gradually dissolve. The threads have a bio-stimulation action, provoking your body into producing new collagen in the area. This collagen takes over from the threads, plumping out the sagging skin for up to 18 months.
What Can the Silhouette Soft Thread Lift Do?
There are some skin concerns that a Silhouette Soft thread lift is highly effective in resolving. These are;
Forehead lines
Your forehead wrinkles develop due to the repetitive motion of your frontalis muscle (the one that lifts your eyebrows). Ageing, sun damage and genetics all contribute to how your forehead lines look.
Silhouette Soft threads can be placed horizontally or vertically, depending on the type of wrinkle you want to resolve. The threads lift the skin so that the appearance of your lines are lessened, often leaving patients with a smooth, wrinkle-free forehead.
Cheek Contouring
As mentioned, the drooping of the supporting structure of your cheeks can make you look much older than you are. Gravity plays a role in the downward slip of your fat pads, as does the loss of collagen and elastin. The Silhouette Soft thread lift will help to reposition the fat pad, restoring the original shape of your face.
Nasolabial Fold Lines
Nasolabial folds are the lines that extend from the sides of your nose to the corners of your mouth. These lines can become more pronounced when you smile or laugh, often causing patients to feel self-conscious or shy when expressing emotion.
Much like cheek contouring, the Silhouette Soft thread lift will help to improve the structure beneath your skin, smoothing out the folds and leaving you with renewed confidence.
Jaw Definition
If you have a problem with jowls or sagging skin in your lower face, the Silhouette Soft thread lift will help to give your jawline more definition. Jowls affect most people as they age, but for some, the loose skin is much more prominent than they’d like.
The threads will gently lift the skin under your chin, leaving you looking youthful with a more defined profile.
What’s The Difference Between The PDO Thread Lift & Silhouette Soft?
There are a few different types of thread used in thread lifts. The most commonly used are PDO threads, PLA (as used in the Silhouette Soft) and PCA. Each has unique properties that make it more suited to specific procedures.
PDO threads are made from polydioxanone, which stimulates collagen production in your body, leading to longer-term skin improvement. PDO threads use ‘barbs’ or ‘cogs’ to lift your skin and typically, more threads are used in your treatment.
PLA threads feature ‘cones’ that help to hold the thread in place, which makes them ideal for reshaping and contouring your face. PLA threads are more durable than PDO threads, regenerating collagen over a longer time.
During your consultation, we will discuss which threads are best suited to achieve your desired outcome. At Elite Aesthetics, we have vast experience performing successful thread lifts and can advise and guide you in choosing the right thread lift for your treatment.
How Long Do The Results Last?
The results of your thread lift will be seen immediately, although it may take up to a week for any swelling and sensitivity to subside. The results are natural-looking, subtle enough to make you appear like you haven’t had anything ‘done’ but still provide a noticeable difference.
The Silhouette Soft threads last between 12 – 18 months, but the new collagen that is produced means your skin will remain smooth for longer.
Is The Silhouette Soft Lift Painful?
The majority of patients find the Silhouette Soft thread lift fairly pain-free. Some report a sensation of tugging, but it’s not painful, just a little unusual. Local anaesthetic is administered during the procedure which numbs the area throughout treatment.
