Facial Sculpting – What Is Side Profile Sculpting?
Side Profile Sculpting, a treatment that falls under the Facial Sculpting umbrella, is one of the best-kept secrets of the beauty industry. This treatment takes a ‘whole face’ approach to refining and balancing your features to achieve a more youthful and finessed appearance.
Side profile sculpting encompasses different solutions related to your specific needs. Find out what facial sculpting, and specifically side profile sculpting includes, by reading this blog post…
Side Profile Sculpting: The Good Side
Many of us joke about having a photo taken on our ‘good side’, but while this may be said in jest, it’s actually true. The majority of the population have uneven faces (the same goes for boobs, feet and even your lungs!), and even though the differences may be slight, the overall effect is of a wonky or unbalanced look.
It’s long been suggested that a symmetrical face is commonly held as the standard of beauty. Stars such as Bella Hadid, Will Smith and Brad Pitt have been shown to have the most facial symmetry using the Phi ratio, a scale developed to ‘measure’ the alignment and size of your facial features and grade them. According to this scale, the closer to 100 you are, the more typically ‘beautiful’ you are. It’s an interesting theory to consider, but it has to be said, beauty comes in so many guises – and an asymmetrical face is one!
So, how can facial sculpting change or improve your side profile? Sculpting in aesthetics is about subtle refinements made to help even out or balance your features. The most prominent features in your side profile tend to be your nose and your chin, so these are usually the areas that are the focus of your treatment.
What Can Side Profile Sculpting Do?
As mentioned, facial sculpting and side profile sculpting will use a variety of techniques to adjust and hone your facial features to leave you with an even and well-proportioned appearance. At Elite Aesthetics, we use different types of dermal filler to make these refinements. The features that side profile sculpting can help with include;
Nose Hump
One of the most common issues that clients come to Elite Aesthetics for is a pronounced dorsal hump (nose-bump). A nose bump becomes more obvious when seen in profile and can be a cause for many to avoid certain angles in photos and videos.
Dorsal humps are usually genetic, but can also be caused by injury and trauma to the area. During your side profile sculpting treatment, dermal fillers are used to disguise the hump, filling the indents on either side to lift the surrounding tissue to meet the highest point of your hump. This has the effect of creating a straight line down your nose.
This is also how we treat crooked or bent noses. Dermal filler is placed in precise locations to help balance a misshapen nose. This can be done as a standalone treatment (known as non surgical rhinoplasty or a liquid nose job), but it’s worth considering this as part of the side profile sculpting to ensure that your new nose shape is complimented by your other features.
Upturned Nose
If you want a cute upturned nose tip, we will firstly discuss your ideal nose shape and ensure that it will suit your face. If you are keen to proceed, Dr Shirin will be able to apply dermal filler to the nose tip to create a little lift.
Chin
If you have a weak or receding chin, you may feel self-conscious about your side profile. A weak chin is characterised by a gentle slope backwards towards the neck. It can make the lower section of your face disproportionate to your mid and upper areas, giving you a more rounded face. By enhancing your chin, you will help to balance the shape of your face, giving it optimal angles.
There are a couple of treatments that can help to give you a more chiselled jawline – you can read more detailed information here.
But for those looking to transform their whole profile, the facial sculpting procedure can include chin augmentation. Using dermal filler, we can give your chin more projection to give you a defined shape.
Jowls
Jowls are most commonly an effect of ageing. Skin loses its elasticity and plumpness from around your mid-20s, and delicate skin, like that under your chin, can develop a crepey look at the same time as starting to sag. While facial sculpting can’t remove your jowls, it can make adjustments to your jawline and cheeks that help to lift the loose skin, lessening their appearance.
Cheeks
A cheek lift may be part of your facial sculpting or side profile sculpting procedure. Your cheek pads are responsible for the shape of your mid face, and as you age, these pads can start to slip downwards, as well as lose volume. Since plump, high cheeks are associated with youthfulness, a simple cheek filler can transform your face significantly.
Side Profile Sculpting: An Overall Approach
What makes side profile sculpting different from the individual treatments? Well, facial sculpting is designed to work harmoniously with each area treated. Specific measurements are taken to ensure that the filler creates a subtle, natural contour, while also addressing your specific concerns.
By having the treatments carried out at the same time, you will find that there’s a more significant change than if you had just a single treatment.
Because side profile sculpting is tailored to your exact requirements, it means that the filler used can be distributed across your face to best effect. So, for example, if you were particularly keen on having a more angular jaw, and your cheeks weren’t so in need of plumping, Dr Shirin would allocate more of the filler to your chin and jawline.
But by also using filler to better align your face not only does your whole face take on a more pleasing symmetrical appearance, it also helps to give a good base to show your features to best effect.
