The Skinny On Fat Freezing – Your Questions Answered
How does fat freezing work? Is it good for toning my tummy? Does fat freezing hurt?
These are just some of the questions we get asked about this non-surgical, transformational treatment, Cryolipolsys (fat freezing).
In this blog, we tell you everything you ever needed to know, so if you want to give fat cells the cold shoulder, read on!
A Little About Fat
There are different types of fat in your body, essential, visceral and subcutaneous.
Essential Fat
Essential fat is found in your brain, marrow and nerves. It’s vital to hormone regulation in your body, insulation and things like vitamin storage.
Visceral Fat
Visceral fat ‘pads’ your organs, adding a protective layer around your liver, pancreas and kidneys. However, poor diet and lifestyle can lead to too much visceral sitting around your abdomen. This is linked to an increased risk of type 2 diabetes and heart disease.
Subcutaneous Fat
Subcutaneous fat is the layer of fat that sits just beneath your skin – it’s this type of fat that can spill over your waistband or straps – often referred to as ‘muffin top’. It’s stubborn and hard to get rid of, even if you’re following a good diet and exercise regime.
Fat freezing targets subcutaneous fat, ridding your body of excess fat cells without the need for invasive and painful surgery.
What Does Fat Freezing Do?
In basic terms, your fat cells respond more quickly to cold temperatures than your skin cells do. Very cold stimulation crystalizes the fat cells, speeding up your natural cell death process (apoptosis). Following treatment, your fat cells dissipate into your system before being flushed out.
Fat freezing affects your subcutaneous fat layer, helping to reduce the volume of fat that has accumulated.
What Areas Work Best With Fat Freezing?
Subcutaneous fat can collect anywhere fleshy, but there are key areas that fat freezing can target. These are;
Abdominal
The upper and lower abdominal areas are the most commonly affected by excess fat. Belly fat can significantly change your body shape, often making you feel self-conscious and shy.
Fat freezing can reduce your muffin top and love handles as well as your tummy, helping you to feel more comfortable in your clothes.
Legs
The upper thigh is another area that accumulates fat cells. We are often asked to treat ‘saddlebags’ (pouches of fat that collect on the outer thigh) to help give a more defined shape to the legs.
Upper Arms
If you’ve ever waved at someone and noticed a jiggle in your upper arms, chances are you have extra fat in that area. Sometimes called ‘bingo wings’, the upper arms respond well to fat freezing treatment.
Chin
The fleshy underside of your chin is one of the hardest areas to rid fat from, as it doesn’t always respond easily to exercise and healthy eating. Fat freezing can reduce a ‘double chin’ giving your profile more definition and tone.
While these are the most frequently treated areas, they’re by no means the only areas that we can help with. At Elite Aesthetics, we can reduce fat on your hips, back, buttocks – we tailor your treatment to your needs.
What Can You Expect From Your Fat Freezing Treatment?
Unlike liposuction which can have a painful recovery, fat freezing treatment is a relaxing and pain-free experience. During your appointment, you will relax in our luxurious clinic while we use specialised attachments to gently suction and cool your chosen area.
You may feel a slight pull on the skin from the suction, but it’s not uncomfortable. The cooling sensation has a numbing effect on your skin, further reducing any feeling. Many patients use the time to read, catch up on emails or enjoy the quiet.
Does Fat Freezing Mean I Don’t Need To Diet?
Fat freezing works best when used alongside a balanced diet and regular exercise. While the treatment will help you to shed excess fat cells, those cells can regenerate if you eat lots of fatty and sugary foods.
Fat freezing is ideal for use on stubborn areas of fat that won’t reduce, even with diet and exercise. The most successful cases have been when the patient has made lifestyle changes alongside a course of treatments. You can see from this before and after photo just how significant the fat reduction has been.
Will I Look Different?
How you look following treatment is dependent on lots of factors. For some, a single treatment is enough to tone and contour their chosen area but for others, a course of treatment yields better results.
You can find out more about the best way to tackle your fat freezing goals in a consultation with one of our experts. We can discuss your objectives, your lifestyle and how we can help you achieve your ideal figure.
In terms of how quickly you see the effects of your treatment, cell death can take from 6 – 8 weeks to complete so you may not see a difference until then. Fat Freezing isn’t a weight loss solution, so you may not see much difference on the scales but you’ll notice a better fit in your waistbands and straps.
When Is Best To Get Fat Freezing Treatments?
There is no preferential time of year for fat freezing, but we do see an increase in patients during the summer months. As the weather hots up (hopefully!) you probably switch to your summer wardrobe which typically includes lighter clothes and swimwear. It’s also easier to follow a fitness plan as the weather allows for more outside activity.
By creating a regime that supports your fat freezing treatment in the summer, you will find it easier to stick to it as the weather cools.
