Hooded Eyelids, What Are They?
‘Hooded eyelids’ are a frequent facial feature characterised by the presence of extra skin on one or both eyes, just under the brows. Extra skin can be seen folding downwards from the brow bone to the lash line. As a result, the eyes appear smaller than usual. Some patients may also have difficulty applying makeup, such as eye shadow. The form of your eyes and eyelids, like attached earlobes or hair colour, is one of the numerous distinguishable inherited facial traits. With growing age, the condition becomes more noticeable.
What Causes Hooded Eyelids?
Age – As we become older, our skin loses elasticity and becomes more slack, resulting in the appearance of excess skin on the eyelid. Our brow position tends to decline as we age, which might result in hooded eyes or make existing hooded eyes appear more prominent.
Hooded eyes or the potential to develop hooded eyes are a genetic trait; if one or both parents have hooded eyes, you are more likely to develop this attribute.
Medical Causes – Incorrectly administered Botox injections can cause the eye brow to droop and produce the appearance of hooded eyes. In rare situations, medical disorders can provide the appearance of hooded eyes; this is due to a droopy eyelid, known as ptosis, and should be investigated by your doctor.
How To Fix Hooded Eyelids
You can choose between surgical (cutting away excess skin on the lid – blethoplasty) and nonsurgical treatment, plasma pen to burn away excess skin on the lid. Yes, I did say burn away, but don’t worry, it’s not as painfull as it sounds as we’re only touching the very top most layers of your skin.
Elite Aesthetics specialises in non-surgical treatments that provides Plexr (medical plasma pen treatment), which is an effective therapy for hooded eyes. It reduces and tightens upper eyelid skin, providing a non-surgical eye lift without the need for hooded eye surgery.
