Lose Your Acne Scars For Good With Our Skin Treatments
Types of Acne & Acne Scarring
Acne is something that almost all of us will experience to some extent over the course of our lives, with teenagers frequently battling acne, though adult acne is also very common. Acne can come in a wide variety of severities, and everyone’s experience with acne is different. There are several different types of acne, varying in severity, with some more likely to have lasting effects even once the active acne has healed.
Acne can be noninflammatory or inflammatory, and there are subtypes for different types of acne within these two categories:
- Blackheads, which are considered noninflammatory.
- Whiteheads, closely related to blackheads, are also noninflammatory.
- Papules are clogged pores that are tender to touch & are inflammatory.
- Pustules, another inflammatory type, are red and often have white or yellow heads.
- Nodules are an inflammatory type which appear deep beneath the skin and shouldn’t be treated at home.
- Cysts are the most severe kind of inflammatory acne, and are the most likely to leave lasting scars on the surface of the skin.
In more severe cases of acne, scarring even after the acne has healed is common, and can be just as, if not more frustrating than the active acne itself.
- Boxcar scars are wide, U-shaped scars that have sharp edges.
- Ice pick scars are the most difficult to treat as they can extend deep under the surface of the skin, and are narrow v-shaped scars.
- Rolling scars are wide depressions that typically have rounded edges and are irregularly shaped.
- Hypertrophic or raised scars are caused by overproduction of collagen during wound healing, and are common on the chest and back.
- Dark spots or discolouration are often mistaken for scars, but brown, red or purple marks fade on their own over time, and don’t class as acne scars.
Treatments For Acne Scarring At Elite Aesthetics
At Elite Aesthetics, we understand how acne and acne scars can impact on your confidence and how you feel in your own skin, which is why we offer a wide variety of treatments for acne scars, to reduce their appearance and give you smooth, clear skin and the confidence to really feel like yourself!
Fractora
Fractora is a treatment that uses targeted fractionated radiofrequency energy to resurface the skin by removing dead skin and debris and exfoliating the top layers of the skin to reduce the appearance of acne scars by breaking down the scar tissue, while also promoting the growth of new healthy tissues. Fractora usually requires 3-4 sessions to be fully effective and results in beautiful, smooth skin with reduced hyperpigmentation and improved skin health overall.
Skin Needling with Stem Cells
Skin needling, sometimes known as microneedling, has been used for many years to improve skin health and regeneration to leave patients with smooth, youthful, glowing and healthy skin. At Elite Aesthetics, we combine our skin needling treatments with Stem Cell serum Calceim, to enhance the treatment even more. During treatment, the skin is penetrated by tiny needles which create ‘micro-channels’ and improve the absorption capabilities of the skin. Then, the stem cell serum is applied, which can penetrate into the deeper layers of skin to promote faster, more effective skin regeneration from the inside out and increase skin turnover to reduce the appearance of acne scarring. However, skin needling should not be carried out if you still have active acne, as it can spread bacteria around the face and make breakouts more common and severe.
PRP & VampireⓇ Treatments
PRP, or Platelet Rich Plasma, is a substance found in the blood, which we can extract and apply in our purpose-built clinic. PRP contains growth factors, which are cells that promote skin regeneration, differentiation and maturation, resulting in faster skin turnover and increased collagen production in the area. To extract PRP, we take a small sample of your blood and place it in a specialist centrifuge, which separates the red blood cells from the plasma. We then use this plasma (which is a clear, pale yellow colour) in place of regular serums in our treatments. Combined with skin needling treatment, we can use PRP to improve the overall health of the skin and create a bright, smooth, glowing complexion.
Viscoderm Hydrobooster
Viscoderm Hydrobooster is an injectable treatment that can be used to gently add volume beneath the skin, in a similar way to dermal fillers, using hyaluronic acid. However, the results of Viscoderm Hydrobooster are far more subtle and gentle than traditional dermal fillers, making them perfect for targeted acne scar treatment. By adding volume underneath scars and lifting the skin, we can help to smooth depressed scars like icepick scars and boxcar scars in a simple, subtle treatment that is imperceptible to others, but gives you the confidence boost you need.
Plexr Plasma Treatment
Plexr uses plasma technology to effectively reduce scarring, improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and reduce pigmentation in one completely non-invasive treatment. Plexr treatment uses a small, targeted device with a tip that forms plasma using the natural gases and electrical charges in the air. This creates a tiny electrical arc, similar to a tiny bolt of lightning, that can precisely treat areas and conditions such as fine lines, scarring, and pigmentation without spreading unwanted heat to the surrounding skin. This leaves a small carbon crust which heals after a few days, and removes pigmented skin and scar tissue as it heals. As the Plexr device never actually touches the skin and only the plasma arc, the risk of infection is significantly reduced and the use of plasma also means that the area is instantly cauterised during treatment, to improve patient safety even further, while still providing incredible treatment results.
Chemical Peels
Chemical peels work by penetrating the deep layers of skin and triggering the exfoliation of the top layer of the skin. While we offer lighter exfoliating peels to polish and rejuvenate the skin, for treating moderate to severe acne scars we recommend deeper peels, such as the ZO Controlled Depth Peel and The Perfect Peel. both these peels have around a week of recovery time, when the top layers of skin begin to physically peel off, and the scar tissue along with it. While the recovery period can be uncomfortable for some patients, the results of our chemical peels are undeniable, and offer our acne scarring patients incredible skin rejuvenation in as little as one treatment!
