Mandelic vs Salicylic vs PRX-T33 Chemical Peels – How Do They Compare?
The chemical peel has been among the top most-requested treatments at our award-winning clinic in Kent over the past year. While we have seen a surge in demand for many of our anti-ageing and skin refining solutions, the chemical peel has always been one of the most effective and long-lasting treatments.
There are many types of chemical peel for our patients in Kent, each delivering a different outcome. If you are thinking about getting a chemical peel at our beautiful Kent clinic, then read on to find out what each type can do for your skin…
What Can A Chemical Peel Do?
In a nutshell, the chemical peel gets rid of the top layers of the skin, exposing new, soft and less wrinkled layers. Many of our Kent clients have found that a chemical peel left their skin looking brighter, clearer and more even.
Acne
Acne comes in different forms (see our acne blog post here) but the one thing all types have in common is the ability to make you feel self-conscious. Whether your acne is the occasional breakout or something you live with, a chemical peel could be the treatment to help.
Acne Scarring
Even after acne has cleared up, the scars that it leaves behind can leave you feeling just as shy. A chemical peel will resurface your skin, making deep scars and pockmarks much less obvious.
Pigmentation
Pigmentation refers to the colouration of your skin, and many of those that visit our clinic in Kent come to see us because they’re suffering from a pigmentation disorder, such as hyperpigmentation. A chemical peel can help to balance skin tone, giving you a more even tone.
Fine Lines and Wrinkles
Fine lines and wrinkles are the chief reason people call into our Kent clinic, and treatment is incredibly varied. Many have found that a chemical peel helps to reduce the appearance of crows feet, lips lines and forehead wrinkles.
Sun Damage
Harmful UV rays can cause long-lasting damage to your skin. Sunspots, spider veins, redness and lined skin are all symptoms of sun damage. A chemical peel can help rectify these issues by removing the damaged layers of skin.
What Are The Types Of Chemical Peel Available?
Salicylic Acid
The salicylic acid chemical peel is the most gentle of the chemical peel options. It deeply exfoliates the top layers of your skin and breaks down the bonds of your skin cells, allowing these layers to be shed.
Salicylic acid is incredibly potent when used to treat acne. In fact, it’s the key ingredient in many acne creams and lotions. But why is it so effective in treating whiteheads and blackheads? It’s all down to its ability to unclog your pores, dissolving the build-up that causes blemishes.
There’s no downtime following a salicylic acid chemical peel; your skin will feel more sensitive and you may have mild redness for a couple of days, but after that, you can enjoy your new clearer complexion!
Mandelic Acid Chemical Peel
Mandelic acid has a unique structure that makes it an impressive ingredient in a chemical peel. It has a large molecular structure that makes it slower acting and more gentle on skin – perfect for sensitive skin types and skin that’s been damaged.
The mandelic acid exfoliates the skin by targetting the connections between skin cells. As the connectors loosen, the old, dead skin cells are shed, making way for the new cells which are brighter, more hydrated and even.
This type of chemical peel is available in our clinic in Kent and suits those with more delicate skin. It is highly effective in the treatment of inflammatory acne (papules, pustules, nodules and cysts) as well as treating rosacea and melasma. A 2013 study also found that a mandelic chemical peel may help with collagen production, something that slows significantly with age. This helps to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, leaving you with smooth, plump skin.
There’s no downtime with a mandelic acid chemical peel, you are unlikely to see much skin shedding in the following days. You may have slight sensitivity and redness, but this will pass quickly.
PRX-T33 Chemical Peel
The PRX-T33 chemical peel has been labelled as the ‘next gen’ in chemical peels. Using a powerful combination of TCA, hydrogen peroxide and kojic acid, this chemical peel deeply penetrates the layers of your skin to leave it looking more radiant, smooth and rejuvenated.
TCA has long been used in chemical peels, like those we offer at our Kent based clinic, thanks to its many attributes. TCA not only clears your skin of bacteria and unclogs your pores, it also stimulates the production of collagen and elastin in your skin.
The low dose of hydrogen peroxide present has an antiseptic response when applied, helping to soothe acne-prone skin. It also boosts your collagen receptors so you will have smoother skin for longer.
Lastly, the kojic acid suppresses melanin production, which is what causes dark spots on your skin. As an antioxidant, it also helps to combat the free radicals that cause skin damage.
PRX-T33 has been highly successful in reversing the signs of ageing by reducing wrinkles and lines, fading discolouration and smoothing skin. It has also been very effective in the management of scarring – we have seen incredible results in removing scars left by chickenpox, acne, melasma and in diminishing stretch marks.
