What Is Mesotherapy?
Mesotherapy is a non-surgical skin rejuvenation treatment that uses carefully selected ingredients – such as vitamins, minerals and hyaluronic acid – to break down unwanted body fat and rejuvenate and strengthen your skin.
First pioneered by French Doctor, Michel Pistor, in the 1950s, it’s been a popular treatment in Europe for many years. Despite its long track record, the UK is only just starting to catch on with Mesotherapy now gaining in popularity.
The treatment involves a series of small injections, directed into the middle layer of the skin – the mesoderm. Various ingredients can be included in the injections, depending on the desired result. The injections can be carefully concocted to help to reduce fat, strengthen and firm skin or reduce the signs of ageing.
What Mesotherapy Can Do For You
Mesotherapy is a non-surgical aesthetic procedure that is storming the UK, and it’s easy to see why. Some of the things that Mesotherapy can help with include:
- Cellulite reduction
- Wrinkles and fine lines
- Dull, lacklustre skin
- Loose skin
- Acne scarring
- Hyperpigmentation
How Mesotherapy Works
Mesotherapy uses a combination of vitamins, minerals, amino acids and pharmaceuticals micro-needled into the skin, to help remove body fat, reduce wrinkles and fine lines, rejuvenate dull-looking skin and treat acne scarring or hyperpigmentation.
These carefully concocted ingredients are micro-needled into the mesoderm – the middle layer of the skin. Here they can help to break down unwanted fat cells and encourage elimination – reducing body fat in problem areas. They also help to nourish and rejuvenate your skin, whilst stimulating the production of collagen and elastin – the cells that give your skin its elasticity and firmness.
What Type Of Ingredients Are Used In Mesotherapy?
Mesotherapy can be used to deliver a wide range of ingredients into the middle layer of the skin. The ingredients used will vary depending on the area you’re treating, the results you’re looking to achieve and the doctor you’re working with. Some common ingredients include:
Hyaluronic Acid – A naturally occurring substance in the body that helps to hydrate the skin, increase collagen production and fight free radicals and bacteria.
Amino Acids – Amino acids are organic compounds that create proteins. Amino acids such as L-Carnitine can be used in Mesotherapy to help transport fat cells and burn them off.
Vitamins & Minerals – Essential vitamins and minerals can help to keep your skin healthy, firm and strong. Reducing the signs of ageing and protecting your skin from free radical damage.
Enzymes – Enzymes such as Deoxycholate can be included to help with the breakdown of fats.
Mesotherapy isn’t a one size fits all treatment. A good aesthetician will listen to your concerns and suggest an ingredient selection based on your skin, your goals and your problem areas.
What To Expect During A Mesotherapy Treatment
Most people need 3 sessions, spaced two weeks apart to get the best results. During each treatment, you’ll first have a numbing cream applied to your skin before the injections are carefully administered to the areas you wish to treat.
Each injection places a tiny amount of the skin rejuvenating ingredients into the middle layer of your skin.
The sessions usually last between 20-30 minutes and you should be comfortable throughout.
What To Expect After A Mesotherapy Treatment
Mesotherapy is a non-surgical and minimally invasive treatment, so you will be able to continue with your schedule as usual – no need to rest or take time off work.
Your skin may look slightly red and some people experience minor swelling in the areas treated, but this usually resolves on its own within 24-48 hours.
The results won’t show immediately, as your body will need time to use the nutrients, rejuvenate your skin and start to break down the fat. Most people start to notice a difference after 2-6 weeks.
How Long Do The Results Last?
The results are long-lasting, up to 12-18 months, but they will eventually start to fade if you don’t keep up with the treatments.
Most people find that a top up treatment every 3-6 months helps to keep their skin rejuvenated and prolongs the results from their Mesotherapy.
How Much Does Mesotherapy Cost?
Mesotherapy is an affordable treatment. Depending on the areas you wish to treat, it usually costs £300 per treatment.
Not All Mesotherapy Is Created Equal
With any aesthetic procedure, it’s important to choose an aesthetic doctor with the experience, knowledge and skills to ensure your treatment is a success.
This is even more important with Mesotherapy. Because Mesotherapy is not a one size fits all treatment – the ingredients selected will be chosen specifically to suit your needs – it’s important that your aesthetic doctor has the knowledge to be able to select the best ingredients for you.
