Pelvic Floor Chair (Emsella) Treatment in Dartford, Gravesend, Kent & London

Written by Dr Shirin Lakhani, Elite Aesthetics

Pelvic floor problems affect millions of people across the UK, yet they are still rarely discussed openly. Many people live for years with bladder leaks, urgency, pelvic discomfort or reduced core stability, believing these symptoms are simply part of ageing, childbirth or menopause.

In reality, pelvic floor weakness is a medical issue that can often be improved with the right treatment. The Pelvic Floor Chair, also known as the Emsella Chair or Kegel Chair, offers a clinically supported, non-invasive way to strengthen pelvic floor muscles without surgery, needles or downtime.

This advanced treatment is available to patients in Dartford, Gravesend, Kent and London who want a discreet and effective solution for pelvic floor weakness and bladder control issues.

What Is a Pelvic Floor Chair?

The Pelvic Floor Chair treatment is a medical device that uses High-Intensity Focused Electromagnetic technology to stimulate the pelvic floor muscles while you sit comfortably and fully clothed.

Unlike traditional pelvic floor exercises, which rely on correct technique and consistency, the pelvic floor chair automatically activates the correct muscles. During a single session, the chair can trigger thousands of powerful pelvic floor contractions, far exceeding what most people can achieve voluntarily.

This makes it particularly suitable for people who struggle to perform Kegel exercises correctly or who want faster, more reliable results.

How Does the Pelvic Floor Chair Work?

The pelvic floor chair emits electromagnetic pulses that penetrate deep into the pelvic floor muscles. These pulses cause repeated, intense contractions that:

  • Strengthen pelvic floor muscle fibres
  • Improve muscle coordination and control
  • Enhance bladder and bowel support
  • Improve neuromuscular signalling

Pelvic floor muscle training is widely recommended in clinical guidelines for urinary incontinence. According to the Mayo Clinic, consistent pelvic floor strengthening can significantly improve bladder control. The pelvic floor chair enhances this process by ensuring the muscles are engaged correctly throughout every session.

What Conditions Can the Pelvic Floor Chair Help With?

Stress Urinary Incontinence

Stress urinary incontinence refers to bladder leaks that occur during activities such as coughing, sneezing, laughing or exercising. This is commonly caused by weakened pelvic floor muscles that can no longer adequately support the bladder.

Urinary Urgency and Frequency

Urgency, frequent urination and the sensation of needing to rush to the toilet can be linked to poor pelvic floor control. Strengthening these muscles can improve bladder stability.

Postpartum Pelvic Floor Weakness

Pregnancy and childbirth place significant strain on the pelvic floor muscles. Many women continue to experience weakness, leaks or pelvic heaviness months or even years after giving birth.

Menopause and Hormonal Changes

Hormonal changes during perimenopause and menopause can reduce tissue elasticity and muscle tone, increasing the risk of bladder leaks and pelvic floor dysfunction.

Male Pelvic Floor Weakness

Men can also experience pelvic floor weakness due to ageing, lifestyle factors or prostate-related conditions. Pelvic floor strengthening is beneficial for bladder control and pelvic stability.

Understanding Pelvic Floor Anatomy

The pelvic floor is a group of muscles and connective tissues that form a supportive base for the bladder and bowel. In women, it also supports the uterus. These muscles play a crucial role in continence, core stability and pelvic organ support.

When the pelvic floor weakens, symptoms such as leaks, urgency and reduced control can develop. The NHS recommends pelvic floor strengthening as a first-line approach for managing urinary incontinence.

Pelvic Floor Chair vs Kegel Exercises

Kegel exercises can be effective when performed correctly, but many people struggle to identify and activate the correct muscles. Others find it difficult to stay consistent over time.

The pelvic floor chair offers several advantages:

  • Does not rely on patient technique
  • Activates deep pelvic floor muscles automatically
  • Provides consistent, high-intensity stimulation
  • Fits easily into busy schedules

This makes it an appealing option for patients seeking a pelvic floor strengthening treatment in Kent or a non-surgical bladder leakage treatment in London.

Is Pelvic Floor Chair Treatment Safe?

Pelvic floor chair treatment is non-invasive and does not require surgery, injections or anaesthetic. Most patients tolerate the treatment well and can return to normal activities immediately.

The treatment may not be suitable if you:

  • Have a pacemaker or implanted electronic device
  • Have certain metal implants
  • Are currently pregnant

A medical consultation is essential to assess suitability before treatment begins.

What Happens During a Pelvic Floor Chair Session?

During your appointment:

  1. You sit comfortably on the pelvic floor chair while fully clothed
  2. The intensity is gradually increased to suit your comfort
  3. You experience rhythmic pelvic floor contractions

Each session lasts around 28 minutes and requires no downtime. This makes it easy to fit treatment into a busy lifestyle, whether you live in Dartford, Gravesend or travel from London.

How Many Pelvic Floor Chair Sessions Are Needed?

Most patients benefit from a course of 6 to 10 sessions, typically scheduled once or twice per week. The exact number depends on your symptoms, baseline muscle strength and treatment goals.

When Will Results Be Noticeable?

Some patients notice improvements after a few sessions, while others experience more gradual changes over the full course. Pelvic floor muscles strengthen progressively, similar to any other muscle group.

Pelvic Floor Chair for Postpartum Recovery

Many women seek pelvic floor chair treatment after childbirth to improve bladder control and restore pelvic support. This can be particularly helpful for women returning to exercise or managing persistent symptoms long after delivery.

Pelvic Floor Chair for Menopause and Perimenopause

A pelvic floor chair for menopause can support muscle strength and bladder control without medication or surgery. It offers a discreet option for women experiencing new or worsening symptoms during this life stage.

Can Men Benefit From Pelvic Floor Chair Treatment?

Yes. Men with bladder leakage, urgency or pelvic weakness can benefit from pelvic floor strengthening. The treatment is discreet and does not involve internal examinations.

Pelvic Floor Chair vs Other Treatment Options

Pelvic floor chair treatment sits between conservative options such as pads and exercises and more invasive treatments like surgery. For many patients, it provides an effective middle ground that addresses the underlying cause of symptoms.

Read How I Improved My Lichen Sclerosus

Had a consultation with Elite yesterday, I must say I was a bit nervous, but Dr Shirin was so friendly and helpful.
I was given lots of advice and was given treatment options that were within my budget.
A few weeks after the P Shot I've really started to see a difference and have gained my confidence back.

Thank You!

Elite is an outstanding professional clinic with high standard treatments. All the staff members are friendly and offer you honest opinions when it comes to products and treatments. This is a welcoming clinic that I can 100% recommend. Treatments are spoken through and explained in detail, also aftercare. I have been going nearly a year now and am happy with all the treatments I’ve had, wouldn't go anywhere else. The Bocox treatment started to work within a few days, which I was surprised about. So glad I went to Elite for treatment.

Thank you Dr Shirin, the O Shot has really helped me with my Lichen Sclerosus. I'd heard about the treatment on the LS Facebook Groups and message a few people that had treatment with Dr Shirin. I was like many in the group who had run out of treatment options and using creams on a daily basis. I have to say a few months after treatment, I can see a real positive change and I'm hoping my LS will continue to improve. Dr Shirin did say that I might have to have a second treatment given how severe my case is.
