How Long Does Profhilo Last? Expert Guide by Dr Shirin Lakhani | Elite Aesthetics
Profhilo results typically last around 6 months. After your initial two sessions (spaced 4 weeks apart), most patients at Elite Aesthetics maintain their results with a single top-up treatment every 6 months. Below, Dr Shirin Lakhani — one of the UK’s leading aesthetic physicians — answers the questions she hears most often about Profhilo longevity.

How long does Profhilo last?
Profhilo results typically last 6 months after your initial course of two treatments. The treatment works by delivering a high concentration of hyaluronic acid (64mg) into the skin, which stimulates your body's own collagen and elastin production. Because these results are driven by your skin's biology rather than a filler, they take 4–6 weeks to fully develop — and then gradually diminish as your skin's natural renewal cycle continues.
“In my experience,” says Dr Shirin, “most patients see their best results around 6–8 weeks after their second session. That's when the bio-remodelling effect is at its peak. After 6 months, skin starts to return to its previous state, which is why I recommend a maintenance session at that point.”
How many Profhilo sessions do you need?
The standard protocol is two sessions, 4 weeks apart. This is the clinically validated BAP (Bio Aesthetic Points) technique used at Elite Aesthetics — five precise injection points on each side of the face that allow Profhilo to spread evenly beneath the skin.
After your initial two sessions, a single maintenance treatment every 6 months is usually sufficient to sustain the results long-term.
Does Profhilo last longer than fillers?
Profhilo and dermal fillers work in fundamentally different ways. Fillers add volume and structure; Profhilo remodels the skin from within. Fillers can last anywhere from 6–18 months depending on the product and location. Profhilo's bio-remodelling results last around 6 months, but many patients find the overall skin quality improvement — texture, hydration, elasticity — persists even after the hyaluronic acid has metabolised.
What factors affect how long Profhilo lasts?
Several factors influence longevity:
- Age — Older skin has a slower natural renewal cycle, which can mean results feel longer-lasting in some patients.
- Lifestyle — Sun exposure, smoking, and high sugar intake accelerate collagen breakdown and can shorten results.
- Skin condition — Patients with very depleted skin may notice a bigger initial improvement but need the 6-month maintenance more consistently.
- Cumulative sessions — Patients who have had regular Profhilo for 2+ years often report that results feel more sustained, as consistent collagen stimulation builds over time.
Is Profhilo safe?
Yes. Profhilo is one of the most extensively studied bio-remodelling treatments available. It is CE-marked and manufactured by IBSA — the same Swiss pharmaceutical company that produces many clinical-grade hyaluronic acid products. It contains no additives, cross-linkers, or stabilisers, making it very well tolerated. Side effects are typically limited to mild redness or swelling at the injection sites, resolving within 24–48 hours.
At Elite Aesthetics, all Profhilo treatments are performed by Dr Shirin Lakhani or under her direct clinical supervision. Our clinic is CQC-registered and follows all JCCP safety guidelines.
What does Profhilo treat?
Profhilo is primarily used for skin laxity (particularly on the lower face, neck, décolletage, and hands), loss of hydration and radiance, fine lines caused by skin thinning rather than volume loss, and overall skin quality improvement. It is not a treatment for deep folds or volume loss — those are better addressed with dermal fillers. Dr Shirin will advise during your consultation whether Profhilo is right for your specific concerns.
