The skin is the body’s largest organ, it’s also our biggest defence against infection and of course, premature ageing. Proper skincare keeps this barrier healthy and strong, and it also rewards you with a radiant complexion.
In 2018 the team at Elite Aesthetics want to support you as you set your skin care resolutions, whether you’re the most disciplined skincare enthusiast or a complete beginner.
Read on for our top new year skincare resolutions for the upcoming year; start small and slowly add these practices into your daily routine or jump-start your New Year with an entirely brand-new regimen altogether.
1. Moisturise after showering
Warm showers strip the skin of essential oils. Keep body lotion right in the shower and apply while your skin is wet. “If you wait”, says Dr Shirin, “skin starts to lose water vapour. Remember to choose a body lotion with a flip top as pump bottles allow water in which can lead to bacteria.”
2. Take off your makeup at night
It’s absolutely vital to take off your makeup before bed – no matter how tired you may feel. “Makeup can trap skin oils and dirt which in turn leads to spots. Cosmetics can also trap skin-damaging free radicals which float in the air (such as pollution) against your skin.” A tip that Dr Shirin gives is to take your makeup off as soon as you get home in the evening. “Don’t leave your skincare routine until the final credits of the film at 11pm when you’re tired. Take off your makeup as soon as you get home so that you don’t forget before bed and you give your skin extra time to breathe.”
3. Eat well
Better skin starts within! A diet rich in anti-oxidants has a protective effect on the skin while a diet high in processed food and refined carbohydrates promotes skin aging. For an added boost of vitamins why not try one of our IV drips. Intravenous or IV Nutritional Therapy delivers a specific cocktail of electrolytes, vitamins, minerals and other nutrients directly into your bloodstream – intravenously through insertion of a cannula into a vein in your arm. Intravita drips are aimed at improving the sense of physical, mental and emotional well-being and optimum health and wellness. They are targeted to support the immune system, as an aid to anti-ageing, for energy enhancement and improved athletic performance as well as improvements in general health.
4. Clean Your Makeup Brushes
Makeup and skin oils build up which in turn create a breeding ground for bacteria which can cause irritation, acne and eye infections. “Wash your brushes with a hypo-allergenic shampoo or body wash and lukewarm water,” says Dr Shirin, “rinse well, squeeze out the excess water and allow the brushes to dry thoroughly.”
5. Invest in your skin’s future
Usually when we make resolutions, we think of the long-term gains – a healthier body or more stable finances, for example – but we tend to forget to apply that to our skin. This year, resolve to take control of your skin’s future. Studies have shown that long-term, regular facial treatments result in more youthful-looking skin for decades. Our Hydrafacial treatment offers a unique, patented 6-step formula to transform your skin. HydraFacial is a hydra dermabrasion facial combining cleansing, exfoliation, extraction, hydration and antioxidant protection in a non-invasive process, resulting in clearer, more beautiful skin with no discomfort or downtime. It is designed to improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, congested and enlarged pores, oily or acne-prone skin, hyperpigmentation, and brown spots. If you want to combine this with a treatment to further target fine lines, try our Hydratight treatment which combines our Hydrafacial with a course of BTL Exilis radiofrequency treatments to tighten and refresh the skin to leave you looking younger.
