PDO Face Thread Lifts – Myths and Facts
When the PDO thread lift was first introduced as a cosmetic procedure, it was met with both excitement and but also some uncertainty. How could tiny sutures create such youthful, taut skin that rivalled the results of extreme facelift surgery?
The PDO thread lift quickly established itself as one of the most effective treatments for wrinkles, lines and sagging skin. But with such incredible results comes some doubt – can it really be as good as it’s made out to be? We’re here to bust some of the myths around PDO thread lifts, so you can make an informed decision for yourself.
What Is The PDO Thread Lift?
In simple terms, the thread lift uses tiny threads that are passed through the lower layers of the skin to add structure and form to sagging, loose skin. The threads have little ‘cones’ that grip them into place, lifting the skin leaving it looking smooth and youthful. The sutures are made from fully dissolvable Polydioxanone. These threads have been used in many different types of surgery for over 30 years, due to their high acceptance by the body.
The PDO thread lift has two significant outcomes; the first is the immediate lift that the threads give your skin. With very little downtime required, you’ll be able to see the effect that this non-surgical treatment can provide right away. But the long-term effects are what makes this treatment highly sought after. As the threads are absorbed, they stimulate the production of collagen (the protein in your body responsible for the strength and structure of your skin). This helps your body to manage the look of lines, wrinkles and sagging skin naturally.
Myth 1
I’m Too Young For A PDO Thread Lift
There is no set age for having a PDO thread lift since it resolves so many different concerns. Some of the most common reasons people opt for a PDO thread lift are;
Wrinkles and Lines
A thread lift is one of the most effective ways to diminish fine lines and wrinkles. So much so that traditional surgical facelifts have seen a huge drop in demand, due to the outstanding results that a thread lift can give.
Ageing affects people at different stages of their life – it can also be due to lifestyle choices like smoking or sunbeds. We have treated clients in their mid-20s all the way up to the later years.
Eye Bags
Like wrinkles, eye bags can affect young people. Dark circles and tear troughs can show from as early as the teenage years, and can be genetic, and not just a sign of fatigue and getting older.
Sagging Or Weak Chin
A PDO thread lift is a pain-free way to help manage the appearance of a sagging chin by tightening the skin in the jowl area. Read this blog post for more information on available treatments for a weak chin…
Double Chin
As mentioned above, a thread lift can reduce any sagging or drooping skin under the chin, giving you a stronger profile.
Myth 2
The PDO Thread Lift is a Fad
While it’s true that the PDO thread lift is a relatively new cosmetic procedure, the technology it uses has been around for decades. The threads themselves are used in tissue engineering and surgery and have been for around 30 years.
As for the use of the threads as a facelift replacement, that’s something that has only been available for the past 5 years or so. It’s the proven success of the PDO thread lift that assures us that it’s not a passing fad. Clients that have had treatment see such an improvement that the PDO thread lift is now one of our most popular treatments for lines and wrinkles.
Myth 3
The PDO Thread Lift Risks Infection
The PDO thread lift is incredibly safe and there is virtually no risk from infection if the aftercare instructions are adhered to. The threads are hypoallergenic and are absorbed by your body, so have no long-term health risk either. We have yet to have a patient with an infection.
There are thread lifts on the market that use non-dissolvable threads, and these do carry a greater risk of infection. At Elite Aesthetics, we only recommend PDO threads for this reason.
Myth 4
The PDO Thread Lift is Expensive
One of the most surprising things about the PDO thread lift is how affordable it is. With the average surgical facelift costing around £7,000, you’d think that a treatment that had a similar outcome would cost a similar amount. But in fact, it’s just a fraction of that.
Here at Elite Aesthetics, our prices start from just £500 so you can transform how you feel about your face without breaking the bank.
Myth 5
The PDO Thread Lift Can Stretch Skin
Since the lift your face experiences comes from adding structure to the subdermal layers of your skin, there’s very little pulling on the skin. Factor in the regeneration of collagen to the area, you can rest assured that your skin isn’t damaged in this process.
Myth 6
You Can Lose Your Expression
While it’s true that there are some anti-wrinkle treatments that cause you to have restricted facial movements, the PDO thread lift isn’t one of them. The threads don’t inhibit your muscles at all, so you will still have full facial expression after treatment.
Myth 7
You Can See The Threads
As long as the threads are inserted at the correct depth, there is no danger of them being visible. That’s why selecting a reputable clinic with proven experience in the treatment is essential. At Elite Aesthetics an experienced medical Aesthetic Doctor – carries out our PDO thread lifts, so you can be certain that your face is in safe hands.
