What To Expect From My Thread Lift Recovery

Thread Lift Recovery

If you’re thinking about a thread lift, then you might be considering what to expect in terms of thread lift recovery?

When looking at a thread lift, most people stay focused on the results. What will it do for me and what will the end results be once everything has healed? It’s an exciting prospect but any procedure, even a non-invasive one like a thread lift, will require a careful recovery to achieve the best results.

We know that what to expect during your thread lift recovery can be a worry, but you honestly needn’t be concerned. Because the thread lift is a non-surgical treatment, the recovery is comfortable and quick. But the best way to ease these concerns is to find out what to expect after the treatment and what a typical recovery looks like.

In this blog, we will break down exactly what to expect post-treatment with a comprehensive guide to thread lift recovery week by week.

What Is A Thread Lift?

Your face is the most susceptible part of your body to ageing. It shows early signs of ageing like lines, wrinkles and sagging skin that can leave you feeling frustrated with your appearance. The thread lift is a popular non-invasive procedure that provides excellent results without having to resort to extreme surgery.

Temporary threads are inserted under your skin’s surface where the dissolvable sutures produce a subtle but visible lift in your skin. The procedure lifts, tightens and smooths leaving you with a natural, youthful appearance.

A thread lift procedure can increase your confidence significantly and improve the look of fine links, wrinkles and sagging skin appearance by smoothing out problem areas on your face, neck and jowls.

How Does A Thread Lift Work?

Fine threads are inserted under your skin’s surface and these tiny threads anchor to your skin, keeping it in place as the threads are raised to create a smoother, tighter appearance.

The threads we use at Elite Aesthetics are made from PDO (Polydioxanone) which stimulates the production of collagen. Collagen is responsible for skin elasticity – the more collagen you have, the healthier and younger-looking your skin will be. However, your natural production slows down as you age, causing saggy skin and wrinkles.

What Do I Need To Know Before Getting A Thread Lift

While you might be excited at the prospect of having a thread lift, it’s good to remember that it’s a procedure that will require some recovery time- but not much. Thread lift recovery shouldn’t make you nervous though, as it’s a non-invasive treatment with very little downtime.

The best thing to do is to find out exactly what to expect from having a thread lift, before, during and after.

We’ve put together a useful thread lift recovery timeline to help answer some common questions.

Pre-Treatment Preparation

Preparing properly before your procedure will help your thread lift recovery. You should avoid the following pre-treatment:

  • Avoid smoking and drinking for at least 1 week before treatment.
  • Be careful in the sun as any sun-damaged skin can’t be treated.
  • Avoid aspirin, multivitamins, vitamin E and D, fish oils and garlic supplements 3 days before treatment.
  • Avoid performing high-intensity exercises and going to a sauna or steam room.

Avoid anything that thins the blood to minimise any bruising and aid a speedy thread lift recovery.

Straight After Your Thread Lift

Immediately after your treatment, you should expect to see some results, although, at this stage of the thread list recovery, these results aren’t the final ones. You might experience minor swelling, bruising and tenderness of your facial muscles and skin.

Your face will feel a little numb from the local anaesthetic. To get the best results and ensure an effective thread lift recovery, you should avoid making any extreme facial expressions and movements for the first two weeks.

You can take painkillers and should apply an ice pack frequently to help with any discomfort and swelling.

48 Hours Post Treatment

Once the anaesthetic wears off completely, your face might feel a little bit strange. It won’t be really obvious to others that you’ve undergone a treatment, but you may still have mild swelling and feel a little sore. You may also have difficulty opening your mouth very wide.

You should be very careful with your skincare routine in these early days. Avoid wearing make-up and pressing, rubbing or wiping the area you have had treated.

In some rare cases, you might find that your skin is a little bit sensitive in the treated areas. This is nothing to be concerned about and should settle down quickly. We provide aftercare to ease any discomfort so please call us if you need any assistance or advice.

Week 1 – 2: Thread Lift Recovery

During the first two weeks of your thread lift recovery, we would expect any swelling and skin irregularities such as redness and dimpling to be completely resolved and the thread entry points to be healing well.

Any discomfort should have subsided substantially between days 3 and 5, enabling you to wash your face easily and continue your usual skincare routine.

Weeks 3-6: Thread Lift Recovery

After two weeks you will be able to move your face as normal without being mindful of extreme facial movements.

The skin rejuvenation and tightening effects start to show from 3-4 weeks and will continue to develop for up to 8 months.

At this stage, you should no longer feel discomfort from the threads and any bruises or puckering should also have diminished by now. If you are worried about the rate of your thread lift recovery then you can speak to us at the clinic or you can contact your doctor.

Weeks 6-12:Thread Lift Recovery

It is during this stage of your recovery that you’ll start to see your final results.

These results will last anywhere from 12-18 months. To maintain your natural-looking lift you can have a repeat procedure. You can find out more about how long our PDO threading last by reading our blog How Long Does A PDO Thread Lift Last?

Read How I Improved My Lichen Sclerosus

Had a consultation with Elite yesterday, I must say I was a bit nervous, but Dr Shirin was so friendly and helpful.
I was given lots of advice and was given treatment options that were within my budget.
A few weeks after the P Shot I've really started to see a difference and have gained my confidence back.

Thank You!

Elite is an outstanding professional clinic with high standard treatments. All the staff members are friendly and offer you honest opinions when it comes to products and treatments. This is a welcoming clinic that I can 100% recommend. Treatments are spoken through and explained in detail, also aftercare. I have been going nearly a year now and am happy with all the treatments I’ve had, wouldn't go anywhere else. The Bocox treatment started to work within a few days, which I was surprised about. So glad I went to Elite for treatment.

Thank you Dr Shirin, the O Shot has really helped me with my Lichen Sclerosus. I'd heard about the treatment on the LS Facebook Groups and message a few people that had treatment with Dr Shirin. I was like many in the group who had run out of treatment options and using creams on a daily basis. I have to say a few months after treatment, I can see a real positive change and I'm hoping my LS will continue to improve. Dr Shirin did say that I might have to have a second treatment given how severe my case is.
