What is dermal filler and how does it work?
Dermal filler is a replication of naturally occurring sugars in your skin. Made up as gel, dermal filler naturally plumps and fills.
Your skin is made up of three vital layers: the hypodermis, the dermis and the epidermis. The hypodermis, the deepest level of skin, consists of fatty tissue, which cushions the layers above it, and protects the organs below it.
Immediately on top of that is the dermis, which contains collagen and elastin – two key attributes that keep skin looking young. When you are young the
y are constantly renewed, but the production slows down as you age.
The epidermis, which is the top layer of skin, is where cell renewal happens! In younger skin, cells are replaced every 15-30 days, but this slows to every 60 days as you age.

Do I need an initial consultation before a dermal filler treatment?
Our clinicians will always provide a consultation before treatment, as we want to really understand your aims and objectives, while ensuring that you are comfortable and understand the treatment that you are receiving. Does Having Dermal Filler hurt?

How long does Dermal Filler Treatment Take?
Treatment is usually completed in around 15 – 30 minutes, although we do require that new customers have a 45 minute appointment. This is to ensure that we have time to consult with you about your desired outcomes, how the dermal filler treatment works, and make sure you are comfortable and informed.
Are Dermal Fillers Safe?
Dermal fillers are safe. Very rarely treatment can result in an allergic reaction (only in around 1 in 20,000 cases), but dermal fillers can be reversed using another injection, though the need for this is extremely rare.
What Aftercare at Home Will I Need To Consider After Having Dermal Filler Treatment?
There is no required recovery time when having dermal filler treatment, so you can leave our clinic and go straight back to your normal activities. However it is recommended that for the first 24 hours you avoid excessive alcohol, direct sunlight and exercise, so do plan for this when choosing your appointment.
What Happens to Dermal Fillers Once the Result Fade and Where Does it Go
The gel used in dermal fillers is naturally broken down and gets reabsorbed by your skin – it doesn’t stay in the body indefinitely!
When Dermal Filler Results Fade – Will my Skin Look Worse Than Before Treatment?
Absolutely not! When the treatment fades, your skin will go back to how it looked prior to treatment. This myth comes about as people get used to the results and forget the appearance of lines before the treatment.
Are There Any Bad Side Effects When Having Dermal Filler Treatment?
As with all beauty and cosmetic treatment, there can be side effects.
With dermal filler treatment, most possible side effects are related to the process of injecting into the skin, rather than the filler itself. These side effects could include redness minor swelling, and itching.
Those who are prone to cold sore may have a slightly increased chance that one will occur after the filler treatment.
Very rarely the blood supply from the smallest blood vessels can be disrupted and cause scabs to form, and in even rarer cases scars.
Allergic reaction to filler treatment is exceptionally rare (around 1 in 20,000).
Is There Anyone Who Should Not Have Dermal Filler Treatment?
If you are a woman who is pregnant or breast feeding you should not have dermal filler treatment. Also, people with severe allergies or a history of anaphylaxis should avoid dermal fillers. If you are taking any blood thinning medication such as Warfarin or Heparin, you should not have dermal filler treatment.
