Nose Filler: The Secret Behind The Lunchtime Nose Job
Nose filler sounds like something you have when you’ve got a cold, but it’s actually one of the most effective non-surgical treatments you can have to alter the shape of your nose. Until fairly recently, the only option for changing your nose was to undergo rhinoplasty – an invasive, painful surgery that can run into the thousands. But now, with the development of dermal nose filler, it’s easy and pretty much painless to achieve the profile you’ve always wanted. Read on to find out more about the ‘lunchtime nose job’…
What Is Nose Filler?
Nose filler refers to the dermal filler that is injected into your nose to alter its appearance. The filler is typically made from hyaluronic acid (HA), which has a thick, gel-like consistency.
Hyaluronic acid occurs naturally throughout your body and is responsible for maintaining the hydration of your eyes, skin and joints. Because it is ‘recognised’ by your immune system, there’s a very low risk of reaction.
When given as a nose filler, hyaluronic acid will settle where it is injected and there’s no concern about it migrating to a different location. As with any delicate procedure, being careful about who carries out your treatment is just as important as deciding what treatment to have. At Elite Aesthetics, Dr Shirin is a recognised authority in her field and her experience as an anaesthetist has left her with a talent for delivering painless injections.
Nose Filler: What Can It Do?
Many patients come to see us to discuss the ways in which nose filler can help. Feeling unhappy about the shape or look of your nose can be distressing, and often leaves you feeling self-conscious about your appearance. So, how can nose filler change your nose and what can it do?
Tip lift
A drooping or downward-pointing nose tip can make you feel shy about your profile. A drooping nose tip can be caused by a lack of support from cartilage, from a decrease in collagen or just because that’s the natural shape of your nose. If you’re bothered by your nose tip, then nose filler is the fastest and least invasive solution.
For those that dream of a cute, button nose, there’s a technique called the ‘Tinkerbell nose lift’. This is where a small amount of nose filler is injected into the end of your nose to very slightly upturn it to resemble the famous fairy’s dainty nose.
Even Out Bumps
A nose bump, or dorsal hump as it is also called, is the result of bone or cartilage growth. Nose humps are the most common reason people seek rhinoplasty – both surgical and non-surgical. While perfectly harmless and usual, a distinct bump in your nose can make you feel awkward or shy. But when treatment such as nose filler is so easy and affordable, you don’t have to ‘put up’ with something you’d like to change.
Evening out a nose bump with nose filler is simple. Small amounts of filler are injected above and below the bump, lifting the surrounding tissue to meet the height of the top of the bump. The effect is a streamlined profile with little to no hump. Below are some nose filler before and after photos, and you can see how significant the difference is.
Bridge Lift
A low nose bridge can be raised using nose filler. By adding a little volume to the centre line of your nose, you can achieve a more projected nose profile which can help to make your nose look slimmer.
What Can Nose Filler Not Do?
While nose filler provides a great range of solutions, there are some nose concerns that it can’t resolve.
Reduce the size
Nose filler can change the proportions of your nose, making it appear smaller but there are limits to how small it can look. It can’t lower a high bridge, for example, or
Help with snoring
There has been some anecdotal evidence to suggest that nose filler can be used to ease snoring, however, there are alternative treatments that have far more proven success rates.
Can I Change My Mind After Treatment?
One of the benefits of using nose filler over a permanent surgical solution is the ability to reverse the change. While the vast majority of people who have a nose filler treatment love the outcome, there have been cases (not at Elite Aesthetics, however) where a patient finds the change in their face too unsettling.
Dermal fillers can be dissolved more quickly with a solution called Hyaluronidase. This is an enzyme that breaks down the filler, reverting you to your original appearance. It takes about 72 hours to completely remove the unwanted filler.
Are There Alternative Solutions To Nose Filler?
With the fast pace of aesthetic developments, there are lots of solutions available for most skin concerns. Our team can discuss what you want to achieve from your nose filler, and if we think that an alternative treatment might be more successful or suited, we will give you all of the information you need to make a decision.
Nose thread lift
PDO threads have transformed non-surgical facelifts and now, they have made non-surgical rhinoplasty simple and painless. If you’d like to know more about how ‘nose threads’ can be used to change the shape of your nose, have a read of our recent blog post here.
Anti Wrinkle Injections
Anti Wrinkle Injections are more commonly associated with anti-ageing and medical uses, but it can be used to reshape your nose. The key aspect are its ability to inhibit the communication between your nerves and your muscles. When used in a non-surgical nose job, the injections prevent the muscles that ‘pull’ your nose into its current shape from working. As the muscles relax, your nose takes a subtly different form.
