How Does A Thread Lift Work?
The thread used in a Thread Lift is specialist, medical-grade suture material called polydioxanone or PDO. It’s made from a hypoallergenic substance that dissolves over time and has either a “barbed” structure, or a smooth structure depending on the area being treated.
As the thread is pulled through the skin these tiny barbs help grasp the skin, allowing it to be pulled tight and also stimulating a healing response. As the skin heals it produces more healthy and strong collagen, which gives your skin a tighter, firmer appearance.
Where the smooth threads are used, a number of threads may be placed into the skin in a criss-cross or grid-like pattern, which will allow for the formation of new collagen and elastin, thereby smoothing out the area and creating the lifting effect.
Does A Thread Lift For Neck Hurt?
While a surgical facelift is an invasive and painful procedure, a Thread Lift is a much more comfortable experience.
At the beginning of the procedure, your aesthetic doctor will apply a local anaesthetic cream, or may inject a local anaesthetic to the area that is going to be treated. This cream or injection numbs your skin, blocking the pain signals and making your treatment pain-free.
Most people say that it’s a similar experience to dental treatment with an anaesthetic – you can feel the procedure but experience no pain.

Are Facial Thread Lifts Safe?
Thread Lifts have been practised since the early 90s and are considered to be a low-risk procedure.
Surgical facelifts require a general anaesthetic, which can carry high risks and is not suitable for all people. But a Thread Lift is completed using only a local anaesthetic, making it a much safer alternative.
As with all cosmetic procedures, there is a risk of some minor side effects such as bruising, swelling and slight pain at the site of the treatment – but these usually resolve quickly within a few days.
Serious complications are very rare – especially when your Thread Lift is performed by a skilled, qualified and experienced aesthetic doctor.
How Long Does A Thread Lift for Face and Neck Take?
A Thread Lift is a very quick procedure! Your appointment should take around 45-60 minutes depending on the area of the body that you’re having treated.
There’s no need for a recovery period, so you can go straight back to work or continue with your normal daily routine right away.

During your consultation, Dr. Shirin will work with you to understand your background, concerns and the results you’d like to see from your treatment. The consultation process also gives you an opportunity to get to know Dr. Shirin and the rest of the team at Elite Aesthetics, and to make sure that we’re right for you too.
On the day of your treatment, Dr. Shirin will mark the areas to be treated and apply a local anaesthetic for your comfort. The thread is then inserted into the skin and gently put into place. After inserting the suture, Dr. Shirin will then apply slight pressure on the treated area to reshape the surface of the skin, smoothing and tightening it for instant, visible results. The lifting effect is immediate and discreet as it is the result of compressing and elevating tissue at the time of adjusting the suture. She will then cut off the end of the thread to make sure it remains in place properly.
The treatment usually takes around an hour, so can easily fit into busy schedules, and after treatment you can resume normal activities very quickly. However, you should avoid makeup for 1-2 days, sleep on your back where possible for up to a week and avoid high impact sports, saunas and hammams, dental treatments and facial or beauty treatments for several weeks after the treatment. Other than that, you can get back to your day as soon as you leave the clinic. You may experience slight bruising or discomfort for a few days after the treatment, but this is usually very mild and dissipates very quickly.
Thread lifts may also be carried out in conjunction with many of our other treatments, including anti-wrinkle injectionsand dermal fillers.

After graduating from St. Guy’s and Thomas’ Hospitals in 1999, and worked as an NHS doctor for the next 14 years. During this time, she carried out a variety of postgraduate qualifications, including certificates in minor surgery and aesthetics. She also worked on a sub-speciality in anaesthetics and did terms in medicine, surgery and A&E care, as well as working as GP for several years.
In 2013, Dr. Shirin left the NHS to pursue her passion of working in aesthetic medicine, a field that has always fascinated her. She brings her expertise to her clients all over Kent and the South East, as well as further afield.
